Two new narrations of mine have gone live today on Insight Timer. In Chapters 11 and 12, Alice in Wonderland comes to an end with a very entertaining court scene. Alice finally wakes from her afternoon nap and tells her sister about her vivid dream.
Chapter 3 of Alice Through the Looking Glass is now onsite too, in which Alice meets a Gnat on a train. He tells her about the other Looking Glass insects.
Later this week, two new stand alone stories from the Brothers Grimm will come online. So will the truly wonderful ending to the story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
I was nervous about recording Gawain because, like all the chivalric stories from King Arthur’s court, there’s violence (think: beheadings and animal slaughter) and many references to women’s beauty (or lack of it) and age (or excess of it). I wasn’t sure how this would go down with a modern audience.
But I needn’t have worried. Listeners have seen through the old fashioned references to the compelling story within, and have really loved it.
‘Exquisite. This is the sort of work that I retain five stars for.’
‘Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is such a sublime choice, and in your subtle, reassuring voice, I can listen over and over again and hear something new each time. Paradoxically, I am utterly subsumed in the story and your quiet presentation, and lulled into a dream state that is rich and supported. Thank you Mandy. I feel so lucky to have found you! Please do Part Four! And More and more, please :)’
