Ted the Shed

When an 87-year-old man with a bad leg takes on an allotment, and pressures his middle-aged daughter into helping him, what can possibly go wrong? Ted the Shed is the story of the ten years that follow this decision, filled with difficulty, joy, rage and love – and a whole heap of digging.

Ted the Shed is an illustrated memoir, telling the comic and painful story of Ted, whose name finally rises to the top of the allotment waiting list when he is 87.

Naturally he needs help, and assumes without really asking that his middle-aged daughter and disinclined son-in-law will be only too glad to get involved. Typical of the father-daughter relationship, this dictates the tone for a fraught yet unexpectedly fulfilling adventure with the soil, which lasts for ten years, until Ted’s death.
